Ausstralians who know how to serve an ace, sail a cat, swim a mile or make a video!

Summer camp is a great American tradition. And it was back in the mid 1800’s that Americans began turning to the outdoors for inspiration and recreation at some of the first US summer camps. Today, around 7 million American children are annually attracted to over 12,000 summer camps located throughout rural America.

At summer camp, youngsters aged 6-17 years can undertake a broad range of recreational and sporting activities as well as developing group living skills in an outdoor setting.

The Camp America international work/travel program operates in over 35 countries and annually arranges jobs (June-August) for 10,000 for international staff at independently owned summer camps. Camp America is the largest and most respected provider of staff to US summer camps and in Australia, has been placing thousands of enterprising Aussies at summer camps since 1973.

Camp America is on the hunt for 1,000’s of Aussies with sport’ leisure and recreational skills to spend 9-16 weeks in June to August 2010 soaking up the sun at summer camp somewhere in the USA. And according to US camp directors, Aussies come with the best skills and are popular with American staff and campers.

Activities in demand include- swimming, lifeguarding, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, tennis, soccer, horseback riding, ropes, archery, camping, hiking, arts & crafts, performing arts, working with special needs children and many more.

Australians are renowned for their sporting skills and are popular and highly sought after by US camp directors throughout America. CAMP AMERICA places over 90% of all Australian applicants and you don’t have to be a ‘Hewitt’ on the tennis court or a ‘Thorpe’ in the pool to be successful!

Provided you are- at least 18 years of age (no upper limit), are cheerful, flexible and adaptable, can work with children, have skills in one or more of the 100 listed sport and recreational activities, and are available for a minimum of 9–10 weeks from June to August 2010, then chances are you’ll be spending our winter in the sun!

Camp America participants get- All accommodation and meals at camp, between US$1250 and US$1735 (depending on age and experience) pocket money for a minimum of 9 weeks at camp, medical / hospital insurance, discounted airfares to America, assistance with US J-1 cultural exchange visa, 24-hour emergency support in the USA, plus plenty of time after camp for independent travel and discovering America.

In short, you’ll make new friends, develop new skills and see new places. Furthermore, you will have had a worthwhile international work-experience that could very well influence future study or career prospects. Certainly looks great on the CV!

Camp America is a program of the American Institute for Foreign Study and in 1969, secured the approval of the US Department of State as an authorised provider of international staff to American summer camps.
